Licensing a Lumenary index

Lumenary Research licenses its founder-led index family for use in exchange-traded products, managed funds, mandates, separately managed accounts and structured products. Indices are calculated and published by an independent index administrator. This page sets out what an issuer’s product, legal and compliance teams typically need in order to evaluate, license and launch a product on a Lumenary index.

What is licensed

  • The right to use a named index, its values and its constituents as the basis for a financial product, and to reference the index name and Lumenary Research in product documentation and marketing.
  • Ongoing delivery of constituents, weights and rebalance files through the administrator’s distribution channels or directly from Lumenary Research, as agreed.
  • Access to the methodology summary, index guideline and governance documentation for the issuer’s own due diligence and disclosure.

The Lumenary classification dataset itself is not licensed as a standalone product. It is embodied in the indices.

Process

  1. Enquiry. Contact Lumenary Research with the intended product type, target market and launch window.
  2. Evaluation. Lumenary provides the methodology summary, index guideline, factsheet and governance pack.
  3. Commercial terms. Product licences are priced on assets referencing the index; nothing is payable before a product licence is executed. Terms are settled directly with Lumenary; the administrator’s calculation and distribution arrangements are documented alongside.
  4. Custom index. Where a standard index does not fit the product, Lumenary designs a custom index on the same methodology. The administrator administers custom indices under its guideline framework.
  5. Launch. Lumenary supplies prescribed attribution and disclaimer wording, index descriptions for the PDS or prospectus, and factsheet inputs. Updates relating to the index are provided via the change log and sent to the issuer directly.

Calculation and administration

The index administrator calculates, maintains and publishes the indices under its published guidelines, applies corporate actions, and executes scheduled reviews. Lumenary Research owns the methodology and determines constituent eligibility under it. The division of responsibilities is set out in each index guideline. Lumenary partners with global, fully regulated index administrators, so that calculation and administration meet the benchmark and listing requirements of the jurisdictions in which products are offered.

Independence of research and fund activities

Lumenary manages the Lumenary Global Founders Fund, a wholesale unit trust that applies the same methodology. Issuers evaluating a Lumenary index will ask how that is managed. In summary:

  • The methodology is rule-based and versioned. Constituent selection follows the published framework; discretionary decisions are recorded in the change log.
  • Index calculation, dissemination and review scheduling sit with the administrator, not with Lumenary.
  • Lumenary’s conflicts statement is published on the Governance page and is available in a form suitable for attachment to an issuer’s due diligence file.
